ASE Scholarships
The Don Nunes Memorial Scholarship
Don Nunes was the founder of ASE and its Director until his death in November 1997. He passionately believed that ASE should be accessible to as ethnically diverse a group of students as possible and did all he could to broaden the base from which our students are drawn. In accordance with his wishes, therefore, The Don Nunes Memorial Scholarship will be available to a student from an under-represented population, according to financial need. It is likely to be an award of £1,000 for a semester's study and £500 for a summer school student. Applications for this scholarship must be accompanied by supporting statements from the home institution.
The Les Arnold Scholarship
The Les Arnold Scholarship is available each semester to a student majoring in English on the basis of need and academic achievement. It is likely to be an award of £500 for a semester's study. Requests for the Les Arnold Scholarship must be accompanied by supporting statements from the home institution.
The Paul Lapworth Scholarship in Shakespeare Studies
The Paul Lapworth Scholarship is available each semester to a student on the basis of need and a keen interest in Shakespeare. It is likely to be an award of £500 for a semester's study. Applications for this award must be accompanied by supporting statements from the home institution.
ASE also offers two other scholarships each semester. These are awarded solely on the basis of financial need.
Candidates for any ASE scholarship should enclose with their application a letter from their financial aid office detailing current scholarships and grants received and a personal letter detailing reasons for the request.
ASE Assistantships
Each semester ASE appoints two students to assist in the smooth running of the Programme, both in Nelson House and when away on residentials. These students receive a weekly stipend. ASE does not normally offer a scholarship and an assistantship to the same person.
