ASE in Oxford
The ASE Programme includes a week-long residency in an Oxford college.
ASE’s Oxford residency
Each semester, ASE has a week-long residency at the oldest of the colleges that make up The University of Oxford, University College - or 'Univ'. ASE classes continue in rooms at this historic college, and students get a taste of what it is like to be an Oxford undergraduate.
Each ASE cohort is welcomed by Dr Andrew Bell, Senior Tutor of the College, who tells us about the University's recent and ancient history and offers guidance to those wishing to pursue graduate work at Oxford.
While in residence, ASE students have their own common room and can use the Univ undergraduate library.
Oxford activities
During the week in Oxford, we explore the treasures of several colleges. There is also ample opportunity to visit the city's galleries, museums, and botanic gardens and to tour the Bodleian Library, one of the finest in the world. We make an attempt at punting on the River Cherwell, and engage with Oxford’s complicated and less well-known history.
The stay at Univ finishes, traditionally, with an ASE dinner in the Great Hall - so bring something smart (semi-formal) to wear!
Accommodation and food
Housing at Univ is in single study bedrooms, with breakfast and lunch served daily in the Great Hall and most evenings free to explore Oxford's many culinary treats. A delicious evening meal is usually pre-booked at ASE’s favourite Oxford curry house, Chutneys. In Oxford, as at Stratford, students have their usual food allowance augmented.
Tutorials in Oxford
Some students opting for the Tutorial Programme will become familiar with the city of Oxford prior to the residential, since this is where many such classes take place. ASE covers the cost of students' travel to and from Oxford for these tutorials.
“Now I can say that I was a student at Oxford University. No-one needs to know that it was just a week.”
— Hannah Berman, Franklin & Marshall College
