"Serious art is born from serious play." Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way suggests that creativity requires freedom and curiosity. This course aims to nourish and develop the creative practice and skills that underpin songwriting, as well as establish authenticity and play as the foundations of a creative life and career.
The course draws from a holistic approach and emphasises the students’ development as writers, musicians, and academics. It offers a valuable opportunity to embrace the unfamiliar experience of being in the UK to discover new parts of the creative self, establish an artistic identity, and inspire the process of songwriting.
Taking influence from The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, students and tutor will journey through a twelve-week programme of writing exercises, free-playing, performance, and exploration of the cutting-edge creative culture of the region. As well as understanding and reflecting on the work of key UK artists, they will absorb inspiration from local landscapes, literature, architecture, and history to produce and share new work.
